Default French Foreign Legion 2 REP beret badge

I have just been given a French Foreign Legion 2nd Parachute Regiment (2 REP) cap badge. I have checked references on the internet and all examples are in white/silver metal. The one I have looks like gilding on top of brass. Most of the original gilding has rubbed off but it's brass/gilding metal underneath. The maker's mark on the rear reads 'DRAGO - 3 RUE DE ROMAINVILLE - PARIS'.
Is this genuine as the brass colouring seems wrong?

I can't say much about Foreign Legion badges but Drago is a French maker I'd be comfortable with...

It seems that you have an old model of the French airborne cap badge. The ones that have seen are like yours. The address for Drago on Rue de Romainville is for the 1952-1960 period.BTW the badge is for all army airborne forces.

Many thanks. I didn't realise it was for all French Army paratroops. A little research is like a little knowedge, a dangerous thing. Still worried about the brass colouring but the maker's name on the back seems to make it seem genuine, as suggested.

Jo is right. The marking is specific to the Algeria War period and these badges are highly valued, ditto "Indochina ones".
Cheers
Phil

Not a cap badge but a unit crest worn on a leather fob on the right pocket.Yours, with "homologation" G1948 means it was authaurised in year 1963.

Re: the brass colouring on the badge, I have read it was a common practice amongst the more junior members of 2 REP to rub away the silver finish on the cap badge to reveal the brass underneath.

This was to make the owners of the badges look like "old sweats".

Drago marks restrikes with an R before the number. I have not seen a Drago restrike with the street address
