The East Surrey is probably a cast fake - can you post the rear of the badge. No many A/A here in EnZed. Regards Chris |

Hi Guys,
After trawling through documents from 1951 with the help of 54Bty I have found info regarding official authorisation to issue for the East Surrey Regt for both large and small Tudor Crown variants. I have just noticed that this is a St. Edward Crown item.... More work to do as this badge does look correct with all the attributes I associate with this maker. Reagrds Chris |

Chris,
Alan and Keith have been most informative about the ES A/A cap badge. Definitely authorised but whether issued or ever worn is highly questioned and at the museum the curator informed me that recruits post 1952 were marched to the PRI to purchse a nice KC item. Never worn by the TA or cadets. Matti |

In 1959 the East Surreys were amalgamated with Queen's Royal Regiment (West Surrey) to form the The Queen's Royal Surrey Regiment.
So with 7 years to play with, I do not see any reason why the design and issue of a AA St Edwards Crown example should not have been processed as a matter of course to replace the Imperial Crown version. The marching to the PRI to purchase a nice KC item (Brass?) is not a supply chain issue! and generally recruits were still issued a currant badge even if they rarely wore it. |

Are we talking authorisation for the Kings Crown version or the Queens crown version here? I have evidence of the Kings version only so far. Regards Chris |

Could have happened. There are a few badges around this era I'm interested in and I have a feeling if I could find the following I might have a few answers: CCN 1960 Anything between CCN 1973 and COSA 1978 COSA 1978 Regards Chris |

I see a maximum of two years when the ES A/A cap badge 'may' have been worn as all QRSR units had their own badge by 1961 and wore it until 67-8 when they became Queensmen. No CCF or ACF units are known to have worn the badge between 1959-1968 and there is a metal one around with the QC

Looking for the same publications myself including something in the 1950's range as I have only 1949 (illustrated), 1963 (incomplete), 1973, 1987 & 1997 and would like to fill in some of the gaps.
