Iolaire Tragedy 1st January 1919
Today is the 100th Anniversary of the Iolaire tragedy. BBC Radio 4 ran a special programme on this topic.
"In the early hours of January 1 1919, the Iolaire, a naval yacht carrying serviceman home, ran aground in sight of Stornoway in the Outer Hebrides. Today the loss is remembered." Some 201 people, mostly demobbed ex servicemen, died within yards of the shore.
