Default Sherwood Foresters-Do I or don't I?

I picked up this lovely Victorian Sherwood Foresters badge the other day, a little grubby and minus its lugs.

I like badges that show they have lived a life but can't decide, do I send it the badge meister Dave for repair or do I leave it as it is?

What do people think?

Ivan

Ivan nice badge, I would personally have it repaired.
If it had a period repair done I would leave it .
Cheers Tony.

The badge looks as though it deserves a second chance - for what my opinion is worth, I would have it re-lugged. Original examples aren't common and to have one, replacement lugs or not, is a boon to any SF collection. David

I've had some work done by Dave before and yes, I can testify to the quality of his workmanship.

I appreciate its a Victorian badge but just how rare is it?

Ivan,
I would say scarce but not that rare! You can pick up a good one for £25-35! The King's crown "Derbyshires" are rare!

Cheers Andy, scarce it is then.

That’s a nice badge you have for sale there and well worth the amount you suggest.

I saw the thread with the kings crowned lugged version, I wonder how many of them are out there in collections with their owners not being aware of what they are?

Ivan,
the Edwardian Foresters are scarce as already mentioned, the one that is "rare" and probably the hardest to get a genuine example of is, believe it or not the QC version! Probably the rarest of pre Brigade QC Infantry badges?

I wouldn't know if it is the rarest of the QC Brigade infantry badges Andy so I'll take your word for it but it’s certainly one that I’ll be looking out for in future.

I spend quite a bit of time in Nottinghamshire and see quite a few Notts & Derby badges when I'm around and about but don't pay much attention to them.

Why is it in this hobby you set your sights on a particular type of badge or era to collect to (in my case Yorkshire infantry) and then something comes along to divert you?

This would be my contender for the rarest ORs N&D cap badge.

As far as the rarest Q/C goes the plastic KRRC Q/C with brass slider is the least seen and most expensive. There is an example in my album.

Alan,
I agree the all Gm one is rare(ish) and also the plastic QC KRRC... The GM Foresters badge does crop up quite often though... I've also got one and have seen at least 3 sell on Ebay over the past 12 months! The only QC one I've ever seen (outside of books) is the one I have!
