Question St John's School, Leatherhead OTC! - Or is it?

I have this St John's School, Leatherhead OTC badge listed on Ebay, however it has been pointed out to me that it may not be the case?

K&K clearly shows it as the badge in the title (KK 2675). It has been suggested to me that it is in fact Sir Walter St John's School (Sinjuns), Battersea, London, SW11? A quick visit to Wikipedia shows this?

Have K&K made a glaring error or is there another explanation?

Andy

Hi Andy,
Cox's book has a completely different badge (Fig.1987), consisting of a large open winged bird on a tawse with scroll "St. Johns's School Leatherhead O.T.C." That is, the same as KK2674.
Cheers, Tinto

Tinto,
I think this might be a K&K "Boob" as their first badge (KK 2674) is clearly Leatherhead OTC as it bears the title on the base scroll! The second badge (KK 2675) may quite possibly be to Sir Walter St John's School, as it bears their motto and crest? Although I cannot see the school getting a mention on Alan's List either?

Yes, I think you are right Andy.
Have a Good Easter. Hope the bad weather conditions aren't affecting you too much.

Andy,

My list is not defintive and smaller OTCs are occasionally being identified. The list I have is compiled from a variety of sources but there do seem to be other School Cadet Corps that were not part of the Junior Division organisation in 1911 nor 1936 when my 2 main sources date from.

Alan,
many thanks, it may well appear that all those sold as Leatherhead badges (As shown in K&K) in the past may just be Battersea badges?

I think that is so. K&K has a number of errors in identification in places although I do wonder how this one slipped through.

Grammar schools are often not included in the Junior Division and many, if not most, fell outside. It was generally, though not exclusively, the public schools that made up the OTC Junior division.

I found one of these badges in my desk drawer with a couple of others that I forgot I had. I have updated the Cadet Corps album accordingly.
