Sevenoaks School OTC/CCF - Some random info!`
Have you ever wondered why the Cap Badge of Sevenoaks School is so untidy and lacking in symmetry? The story goes (from the School itself) that the original design was drafted with a quill pen and sent to the manufacturers, it was assumed that their design department would tidy up the badge before making the die! Well they did not and the badge was struck as per the submitted draft!

Sevenoaks School OTC
Andy,
You may find the attached photos of interest. They originate from WO32/15593. Stephen. |

With that date of 1956 it can never have been an OTC badge design. This is borne out by the fact that the school did not have an OTC in 1913, nor in the records of OTC members in WW1 nor in the 1937 census by Martin. If any one has any evidence of a Sevenoaks school cadet force existing before 1956 then I would be interested in it as I cannot find any so far.
I think one of these badges was on ebay recently claiming to be an OTC but I was sceptical and the 1956 letter from the school would bear this out. |
