Up for discussion are the following examples to this unit.

1. Earlier OTC varient with Gaunt plaque to rear.
2. Rear of above.
3. Close up of plaque.
4. Unmarked example of OTC variant which I've had for years but is fully punched out between the wings. In my opinion it is from the same maker as 1. All other details are the same.
5. Rear of above.
6. The two together.

The later UTC variant.

Note that we are back to the non punched out area between the wings as with the earlier Gaunt variant.

The UTC in my collection also has the solid area between the wing tips. The only difference being that the slider is punched with the larger London Gaunt stamp.

I perceive they are all from Gaunt.

As an aside, the symbolic Welsh daffodils are very well executed and a interesting change from the usual laurel, oak and thistle seen on other British badges.

DG I'm with you and think they are all Gaunt.

The Gaunt mark is 12.23 mm btw. I think I can make out a dot between the the T & L but this is definitely smaller than the known 15mm copies.

I see now why you had a concern. Larger than '11mm Gaunt with a dot' but smaller than the bad '15mm Gaunt with a dot'.

The maker mark on mine is the later (I believe it's later), large 1.5mm x 23.75mm stamp as illustrated on the this sites maker mark page. I have many badges with this stamp. The stamping is usually quite shallow and there is an approximate gap of 4mm between T & L. No dot.

As my badge is the same as yours in every respect, I think you are safe.

Looking at your mark again, I can't see a dot only a spot of discoloured brass. You're gonna need glasses when you are out for the pheasants once the season kicks in. http://www.britishbadgeforum.com/for...ons/icon12.gif

My season kicked off last Saturday, back over tomorrow dogging in (nothing to do with Ron Davies) as the unseasonably warm weather has allowed the little buggers to wander off. Oh, and I already wear glasses when I'm using a shotgun, but contacts with the rifles.

On a serious note, looking under a loupe there is definitely a dot. The height of the font is 1.06mm, length of total mark as previously advised.

Just noticed this in one of his frames, a UTC button for them.

Is a large button, bloody hard to get a good photo.

Also mentioned the Cader Idris powder horn and he said "bet he hasn't seen there shoulder titles".

Also have you ever seen 1st/3rd RWF VB badge in gilt as he read that they exist but can't remember seeing them, seen the bronze version but not these.

I do have both 1st & 2nd VB RWF badges that I've always considered to have a bronzed finish. I've only got 3rd VB in white metal (the one with the twin set of blades).
However, looking at them tonight I'm not sure that the 1st I have is truly bronzed and not just heavily tarnished, especially when compared with this 2nd VB OSD example.
I'll have a good look and photograph them in the light tomorrow.
Great button btw & no I haven't seen the shoulder titles for the Cader Idris Vols. I thought the powder horn was pretty good though.
