A staybright badge I have no idea about
Hi all
I have recently come across this badge I can't find any info on. I was hoping someone here might know it. It's staybright marked "JR GAUNT LONDON" approx 4cm tall x 3.5cm wide Thanks in advance |

Its post 1952 with the E2R Crown... the makers mark is certainly post 1947. It appears to be "S I P"? Is it something to do with Singapore possibly?

anodised id
Hi. I thought it looked like SLP. Wouldn't that make it Sierra Leone Police?
Just a wild guess. Regards, Andrew. |

It's the cap badge of the Solomon Islands Police.

Has been obsolete for a number of years. Now known as the Royal Solomon Islands Police. It is actually chrome plated metal as opposed to staybright (anodised aluminium).

And so, one assumes, originally a trade name. Whicvh has come to be a generic, as with 'kleenex' in North America or 'biro' in many places. As has been pointed out, while common and often used, such terminological inexactitude - to quote Winnie - can be msleading.
