Home Guard - Hong Kong Regiment??? Was there such a thing?

That was my guess too, Alex. The 'eastern script' looks top my untutored eye more persian than Deva Nagri, so probably not Indian Army and even the State Forces units out there mostly used English titles, so I suspect one of the Arab Gulf/N. African levies.
Interesting sealed pattern tag! The '13' is pretty egeneric for anywhere in the Empire with numbered militia and/or regulear regiments. Even if Canadian the maker might well have been English as late as 1910 too, so that's little help. |

T.O.L. TRUCIAL OMAN LEVIES precursor to the Trucial Oman Scouts I think.

thanks all
i appreciate your comments. sean, i would never have thought the T.O.L. TRUCIAL OMAN LEVIES. thanks alex, from a quick google search i think there was a home guard for the Hong Kong Regiment from the 1960s. don't think it went for very long but this title is anodised so fits i guess. the seals are unusual. cheers bc Last edited by badgecollector; 06-05-16 at 05:31 AM. |

Well done, Sean. Completely missed that one, which probably [?] ties in with the Arabic script curved title.

If you can give me a better photo of the curved Arabic script title I will be able to read it for you. Can I suggest doing it with a scanner? That will provide a true size image.
I can tell you now it has no relationship to the Trucial Oman Levies or Scouts. Eddie |

Hmmm, very difficult indeed. I have consulted my Arabic DiL. First word is The Music, second Sultanic, third we cannot make out.
I think its an Omani band but I am baffled. Eddie |

I believe there was - made up of those who were too old to serve in the HKR (and RHKR) proper. I don't know any details but there were still in existence when I was (unofficially) attached to the RHKR in 1970/71. The images (1960s?) is just added for interest - don't know if they were HG. Mike

Arab shoulder title
Hi. Found it! Qu'aiti Sultanic Band. It is illustrated in the book ' The Armed Forces of Aden and the Protectorates 1839-1967 ' by Cliff Lord (forum member) and David Birtles. There are also a couple of photos of the band itself. Where the title is illustrated it states made by Dowler of Birmingham 1960. Regards Andrew.
