Hi guys !
RND rank badges definitely Red on Khaki,as per articles, etc ,mentioned above.
Also as shown here.....
origional RND PO's arm badge(Front & Back) & Sgts stripes (came together from same family here) from my own collection(now back in the Freezer,to stop the moth !!)
Pics of some origional Family items ,belonging to PO C.H.Peckham MM of the Hawke Btn, RND from 1914 to 1918 , from his Son.
The Hawke Btn's, late-war arm-patch bird, is more 'black' looking in 'real-life' here.
My puzzle is .... at what stage & for what reason did the HAWKE Btn change from the 2nd Btn, as in D.Jerrold's book, etc to the 3rd Btn as seen in later contemporary photo's,etc ?????

Cheers !
Steve

To add.....
re....HAWKE 'Battle Patch' 1918
There are several different versions of this, shown in different articles.
some may be 'soldier-made' or 'battlefield' variations. The shape, above, is the accepted 'official' shape, though usually shown as black & without a backing colour(the colours used here do match those usually shown for the other 3 suviving units' patches.). Though this is an 'issued' item here,I think this particular badge looks to have never been attached to a uniform. Possibly issued just prior to the disbandment parade or an unpopular version within the unit ?
Cheers ,again !
Steve

Hi Steve.

The following link, if you have not seen it, still puts HAWKE in the 2nd Brigade right up until May 1918, so no further thoughts on your 3rd.

Royston,
Good info ,from this site.
Many thanks!
Steve

PS: 'Hawke' appears to possibly be the 3rd Batn of 1st Bgde, RND, at the time of stationing in Aegean, just prior to going to Fance, mid( May/June) 1916. This would fit, about right here, I feel. (I have a '1' above 'DRAKE' badge, on a backing-plate ,that appears to be from the very same period here, mentioned 'as seen in pics' also in article, below.)
PPS: Have also seen 'Hawke' listed, as a 3rd Btn of 189th Bgde, 63rd (RN) Div,(seniority ?) behind 'Hood' & 'Drake', in other ,later, lists (eg: W.Y.Carman & R.J.Marrion's excellent & very detailed two-part article, but not sure of their actual 'source's' here )
PPPS: numeral '3' above 'HAWKE',seen in pics, as a cap badge, must have preceeded the introduction of 'proper' Cap Badges in late(September) 1916 ?
