Bridade Patches - Garrison Dress
Only the four Regular Force, 1, SSF, 4 and 5 Brigades have Garrison Dress patches. The Reserve Brigade patches came out after Garrison Dress had been discontinued.
The SSF is unique as their patch was designed for the Parachute Smock and I don't recall if it was worn on the Garrison Dress Jacket. |

2 Brigade and 1 Division
I forgot to mention that after the disbanding of the Canadian Airborne Regiment and the reorganization of the SSF into 2 Brigade, there is a Garrison Dress patch for this brigade as well.
So, you have: 1, 2, SSF, 4 and 5 Brigades all having Garrison Dress patches. As well, 1 Division also had a Garrison Dress division patch. |

Do they wear a patch now? Is it the only division that is active?
I guess I need to up date my reference material. John |

In addition to the patch Ed illustrates, there is also a melton patch with a merrowed edge.

1 Division Patch
The melton patch was for the DEU uniform. I have never seen a melton version with a merrowed edge, every one I saw, or was issued, was very similar to the WWII melton badge with just straight cut edges.

Here are two images. The first image includes several examples of the 1 Canadian Division, all POST WAR. Now, the skeptic will say how do you know they are post war? The top three were either taken from garments that were dated from the 1950's or were from soldiers who had no wartime service. Obviously it is very possible that they were left over Second World War stock.
The bottom two patches, also shown in a separate image, are the pattern mentioned by Ed (on the left) and the merrowed edge melton pattern on the right. I obtained this in the late 90's from a fellow who was/had been in the HQ element.

1 Division - Merrowed Edge
Just goes to show the variety of badge manufacturing in the CF. I was stationed in Kingston with 1 Div HQ for several years in the late 1990s and the only formation patches being issued were the non-merrow edge kind. The Div was basically a Div in name only at that having very few units actually wearing the formation badge, makes you wonder how many contracts were let for red patches.
