Default Cdn 1st Div patches

There was a post-SWW 1st Cdn Div HQ in the 1950s, stood down I think in about 1958. I was on exercise at least once in the newly built Camp Gagetown in New Brunswick. In theory, it consisted of the three active brigades in Canada, there being fourth in Germany. All units in the active brigades, including 4th, wore the red melton divisional patch. This patch was replaced by the Mobile Command patch in 1968, after Forces' unification.

Default Brigade Patches

Have to agree with you Ed on non merrowed 'Red Patch'.
When 1 Div was activated in 88 under the command of MGen Jack Dangerfield
I was the G4 OPS in the HQ. We wore the 'flat Patch' on our DEU.
We had 'Div Rebadging' ceremonies in Lahr and Valcartier and I believe they all wore the 'TheOld Red Patch', ie 'flat'
I left in 90 and went back in 93 as the G4 in the HQ and we continued to wear the 'flat patch ' on our DEU.
To be quite truthful, I can't remember wearing Garrison dress in the HQ fm 93 to 95 so can't comment. I think AGE may be a problem here.
A question pls; we only wore the div patch on our right upper sleeve of the DEU.
In Bdes did they wear the the bde flash on both sleeves?

Cheers Al

Default Bridade and Division Patches

Here is an image showing some of these formation badges.

Brigade badges on the left are DEU, those on the right are Garrison Dress. Note the dark gold thread in the GD patches. The GD badges are fully embroidered while the DEU badges are partly embroidered on a melton type background.

Default SSF Badges

Here is an interesting image of the Parachute Smock actually being worn in the field. Note the US Body Armour, US M1 Type II Parachute Helmets and the SSF patches being worn by this M151A2 MUTT with TOW crew.

Default Yet another variety of 1 Div patch...

This patch has recently appeared. Note the rounded edges on the patch, and merrowed edge.

1 Div has been reactivated with HQ here in Kingston.
Is that the new patch?

Phil

Very good chance that it is Phil. I haven't seen this pattern until a few weeks ago.
