Hi Cliff

Ya think so? I have sold a few and a half and prices are not that high priced anymore. Some online, some through second parties and some in my trays at shows. Ask me what I got for a IR set in 2007.

In the period 2007-present, I've seen the price drop and although true that one doesn't see them everyday, they aren't "scarce" IMHO. Just about every soldier with a few years in (and a number of RCN&RCAF types) has a couple in their drawer/Bks Bx/Kitbag somewhere. No real attachment. There will be plenty to come onto the market and the price will creep up again as the specific IDs become more expanded and they're desired more.

I do think tho' that the base problem will remain that the pure variety of all the official/un-official will plague this sub-theme of any easily defined future. This thread and the other address that through pretty good knowledge and evidences. I'd still hate to be the guy who writes that book!!

regards
Darrell

Thanks Darrell and Cliff, great info on what should be a simple subject, our national identifier!

I'll look at the other forum.

History does not bear this out. The rules for the CANADA title changed several times from 1939-1945 for example. In the 80s and 90s as the Army transitioned from combat to CADPAT uniforms, rules for the CANADA legends and use of flag insignia on uniforms seemed to change several times as well. Major sticking point always seemed to be the appropriateness of soldiers employed in Canada wearing national identifiers, and a desire to save CANADA titles and later the red/white flag for those deployed on active operations or to overseas missions.

More recently there is the unofficial use of IR flags, and arid Canada flags, troops returned from the sandbox insist on wearing IR flags, especially on their gortex raincoats, as a badge of service, i.e. "Look at me. I've been to Afghanistan!"; even though expressly forbidden by the chain of command. Why one needs an IR flag while taking the bus to work still puzzles me?

The large tan and black IR flag looks good to me (I have an identical example that came from an Afghan vet) and some were indeed worn overseas although we all know that the green and black were the predominate color combo worn. Also, the rectangular ISAF patch looks American to me and appears to be on a multicam backing.

With the change to the larger flag on each sleeve with the latest version of the CadPat rollout, there will be no shortage of the small flags floating around.

Don't expect the small flags to suddenly become obsolete. Jackets and parkas, will still be using the small flag until redesigned. Also the new shirts will be issued as the old ones wear out, it could take years for that to happen.
