Default WW1 Mercantile marine Torpedoed badge

Hi,
just picked up this unusual badge, awarded to members of the MM during WW1 whose ships was sunk and they were fortunate enough to survive...

Here is an M.N. officers' badge [with packet] made by STEPHEN SIMPSON, GOLD & SILVER LACE MANUFACTURER AND EMBROIDERER, Avenham Rd. Works, Preston. They were in business from 1829 to 1929.

They are WW1 sea service chevrons, one for each year of service. The lower one is more silver than the others which as I understand it denotes service from the outbreak of war in 1914. It would be interesting to see the regulations for these as applied to the merchant marine.

Thanks David, I have not come across those before, I am hoping to see an example of the Torpedo badge & multiple bars worn or even the Star! keeping all fingers crossed.
Regards
Steve

Hi

I have a small silver watch fob that has intrigued me for years.

It would appear to relate to someone who was on a ship that was torpedoed and has a "transport" number ("A-19" or somesuch).

It is then engraved on the back "Torpedoed March 1917".

It would be nice to place it with a particular loss, so I'll dig it out and see if we have some bright spark who can help!
