Notice on the back, it’s engraved too, with the solder going up to the engraving, possibility this was originally the front of the item, with it design now covered by lead solder.

Thanks for the message. Yes I did notice that and thought it was odd. I was wondering if the engraving on the back was a first attempt which might have been abandoned; the maker then may have turned it over and tried again. It doesn't show too well in the photos, but the badge is domed.

Not that I can see. I think it is just a slightly darker area of tarnish.
