I have just acquired some buttons and shoulder boards worn by John Kode, who was an engineer on various Rennies Shipping Line ships. I am posting pictures in case anyone has any of the items sitting in their "yet to be identified "box

That is a great badge. Clearly seen lots of sea time, which adds to the interest. Its a pity there is not more information available of these old shipping lines

There is a fairly new book out called 'Heraldry of the Seas (or oceans...can't remember exactly)'. Not definitive but very useful, has a couple of hundred pics of merchant navy shipping line cap badges and uniforms. At work so can't access my copy to confirm right now.

Quite unusual shoulder straps there, must be for a junior engineer or 5th engineer I would think.
