From what I can gather the Australian Army Veterinary Corps was formed in 1909 Yet I cannot seem to find any formal hat badge until the 1930's when the 'winged horse" came into existence... Does anyone have any knowledge as to what may have been worn prior to this ? I have added pics of the 1930s Hat badges I have in various finishes. (Cheers Marc)

Some earlier Vet corps insignia that I can think of:
WW1 Colour patches (Brown I think). AVC title over the AUSTRALIA title and worn with the general service rising sun hat and collars Permanent forces - AAVC title. Don't know of any other hat or collar badges |

The 1906 orders for dress list a shoulder title AAVD for the predecessor Australian Army Veterinary Department.
Price List of Clothing 1915-16 has the shoulder title AAVC in brass. No other badges in any form are noted in PLC or PVCN and correspondence during 1929/30 relating to a badge for the AAVC does not suggest that any design had previously been in use. Possibly the 1909-1912 component wore the badge of the regiment or corps to which they were attached on a maroon rosette or the maroon gorget patches. I think this is what the Australian Army Ordnance Corps did for a time after Federation. The AAVC came for some time under the Director of Remounts. The remount personnel as far as I know were AASC.
