Question regarding webbing and rank insignia

Hello everyone,

I was wondering if South African soldiers in North Africa (1941-1942) used both the P37 webbing and the webbing shown in the picture below (not sure of the exact name), or if they used just the P37 webbing. Most pictures I see of South African soldiers with the webbing from the picture were taken when they were on parade.

If I'm not mistaken, they did use that particular webbing in the East African campaign.

Onto the next question, did South African soldiers wear their rank insignias only on the right sleeve, or both?

They are wearing Pattern 1937 Webbing.

Cartridge Carriers on the belt.

Yes, thank you. Were these the standard issue pouches, or did they also have the regular P37 pouches?

Yes these were the standard P37 for .303" clips of 5

The W.E. Patt. '37 Set with Cartridge carriers was intended for non-infantry troops who carried rifles, but did not need the ammunition carrying capacity of the larger Basic pouch.
