5th Vol Bn (Irish) KLR
Is it in my imagination that I have heard of a KC version of this badge with a slider ?????
I'd love to get hold of one - or even a decent photograph of both sides This is identical but with loops |

I cannot say I’ve seen many of these but all those I have seen were indeed looped. A rare badge.
No doubt P.B. has seen more of these than most and is best placed to make an informed comment. |

All I can add is that I have never seen an example with a slider.

I thought I saw one in an album of Irish badges here somewhere but more compelling is that on 20.10.1904 'the Army Council has app’d for the 5 VB King’s Liverpool Regt;
Badge for Slouch Hat received 17.3.1905 (Jacket Green with Titles WM on shoulder straps and collar badges.) Slouch Hat rec’d 6.3.05 It might have had long loops but the WO prohibited perforating the hat. It might be a long slider fitting into the 1901 socket. In any case "received" indicates hat they existed.... A number of Vol Bns wore the slouch hat - eg Lpl 6th VB and 8th VB (Lpl Scottish) Incidentally, if anyone has a 5VB officer's cap badge (QVC and / or KC) please could I use a photograph of it, with acknowledgements of coure. thanks Last edited by KLR; 30-08-20 at 10:30 AM. Reason: officer's cap badge |
