South Aust commemorative item
A recent acquisition. I was told it emanated from Clare, South Australia, as a WW1 commemorative item, but have no other background information. It hasn't scanned very clearly, but the obverse shows accurate colour patches of key SA units, while the reverse has various images plus the inscription 'In Honour of the Brave and Selfless Men and Women from South Australia who Served in the Great War'. It's quite heavy white metal and enamel, 57mm in diameter.

Looks like a challenge coin to me.

Probably a blurred line betwen challenge coins and commemorative medallions.

Aren't challenge coins made for members of the unit specifically represented on the coin? This one seems too obviously historical for use by current units descended from those being represented, but I'm willing to learn.

I'm now certain it is, too. A fellow collector has just informed me that it was designed as such around 2018.
