I believed or was lead to believe that this plain pugaree ,British made felt hat from WW1 ,was an exclusively Australian worn one .But this is British manufactured slouch hat, not an Australian manufactured and issued slouch hat
But as pointed out to me in another thread by old Attila ,and with further research ,I have found good evidence of the plain pugaree felt hat being worn by some New Zealanders .Although due to regulations should be worn with the brim down post September 1916 Last edited by pukman; 12-01-14 at 05:43 PM. |

The 15pdrs were used in New Zealand in the early 1900s to replace the 9pdr 6cwt that had been used since 1880. The 15pdrs was itself replaced in 1911 by the 18pdr and the 4.5 Howitzer. (The 15pdrs were eventually given to cadets units for training purposes) The 15pdr you have pictured looks to be in bad shape, and appears to me to be a MkIV carriage? Motat used to have a 15pdr in bad shape, as did Eastland Museum of Technology, where was the photo taken? Brent |
