Default More Fakes at Lockdales

Prospective buyers beware, this auctioneer specialises in selling fakes. An example of just one of the many fakes attached...

Yes, I think this saleroom does itself absolutely no favours whatsoever, they have got themselves a bad name in recent years, I have heard quite a considerable number of prospective buyers complaining, often with good reason too.

I agree but there are also members of the forum that sell fakes and sell items where the description is completely wrong and I would think in some cases just made up to make the item something which it is not.
Caveat emptor!

I believe the fakers should be named and shamed and forum members warned about the fakers activities.

However, using this forum to name and shame could cause problems for the forum owners who may be considered responsible for any “libellous” posts.

It would be good to receive guidance from the forum owners, as I enjoy and value the forum and would not knowingly do anything to put the forum in jeopardy.

I think you will find that the guidance has already been given not on one occasion but several times. Only a week or so ago this issue was discussed as a result of it being raised by an individual who was critical of the moderators for not dealing with these issues as he thought appropriate. The mods. eventually closed the thread. Please don't let us go over it all again.

Expanding our remit to behaviour outside the forum for the entire membership is an impossible task. It cannot be done on a consistent and fair basis, and we (the moderators) don't want to do it anyway.

Expecting it is asking for more free man-hours, and lots of them. Then of course we would have the arguments over who should be removed etc.

I'm a bit disillusioned by it all this morning. Sometimes I wonder why we inflict the forum on us all.

Mike its a great Forum you have done great things with it.
But if a Forum member is selling fakes ( knowingly ), why is there a problem with banning them ? Surely they can't get offended ? as they are selling fakes in the first place. They cant justify what they are doing, surely. Whats the worst that could happen ?

I wish members would stop putting added pressure on the owner of this forum to ban other members, who have not broken any forum rules, because if he decides it isn't worth the hassle and closes it, we're all screwed, so pack it in.

If you don't like it, leave.

To be quite clear this is a forum about collecting badges and is not trading standards. By all means impart your knowledge on genuine badges and what to look for in copies but please avoid personal attacks and anything that might result in accusations of libel.

Cool Fakes for sale at auction

Whilst I agree with members flagging up the fakes, I feel it is up to members to judge what is good and what is wrong.

Again I've had a post removed ? Funny how we can remove members posts but not those that sell fakes. Am i being picked on, is this a form of harassment ?

For the last and final time this is a forum about collecting badges and is not trading standards. By all means impart your knowledge on genuine badges and what to look for in copies but please avoid personal attacks and anything that might result in accusations of libel.
