HOME DEFENCE V.F. BADGE
I had a good day buying in Lichfield on Friday. I picked this badge up which reads PERRY BARR & GREAT BARR HOME DEFENCE V.F. It is numbered 19 on the back and made by W.J.DINGLEY B'HAM. I would like to find out something about the organisation if anyone can help.
Also found this small model of Bismark. Not a badge but could not resist it ! |

The complicated title would seem to suggest one of the many units that eventually became the Volunteer Training Corps (VTC).
Ray Westlake wrote a series of articles on units found in the VTC Gazette but they are not listed. Might be worth trying local newspapers from WWI? Jon |

Very, very nice and as already suggested you may find some about them in one of the local newspapers of the period.
During my own research I found many Northumberland and Durham home defence units, which predated the V.T.C., some of which went onto form V.T.C. units, while others disbanded. Again few if any were mentioned in the later V.T.C. Gazettes. |

Thanks for the pointers. I will take myself off to the local history centre and library.
