1930 The Black Watch Royal Highlander of Canada Officers Pattern Glengarry Badge
1930 The Black Watch Royal Highlander of Canada Officers Pattern Glengarry Badge
Here we have what Chris Brooker's book on page 74 refers to as " the rare 1930 officers pattern Glengarry badge is a modified English pattern bearing the sphinx on the lower arm of the star etc no N.C.O's bi-metal badges were authorized or have so far, been reported" BUT behold here it is, in all its splendor, this badge is from an estate and never on the market. This badge looks like and I'm certain never modified in anyway, shape or form but I'm not an expert in badges so if anyone out there has any in formation and would like to share it please do. thanks to all

Beautiful badge. Certainly a nice find, and a great piece for the Canadian Black Watch.

I interpret the book's reference to Bi-metal NCO's badges to mean gilding metal over white metal, as can be found in later issues. Your badge appears to be gilt & silver, & would be Brooker 105-11-60.
It may not be a 'one of a kind', but it certainly is a gorgeous badge. |

I appreciate your input but the badge is white metal silver plated and the applied pieces are brass gold gilt, Thanks

Clarification: Which Brooker book is referenced? The Black Watch booklet, or Brooker's Badges of the Canadian Army Vol 1? There is no listing/badge with that reference number in the new reference. A badge listed as 105-11-212 is similar, but does not have the sphinx device at the bottom of the badge.

Clarification:
The Standard Catalogue of Canadian Army Badges 1855 to date "BOOK 3"

Odd, that reference is not carried over into the new book.

Curiouser and curiouser... In the new book the badge listed as 105-11-61 is now 105-11-210. And there is no listing for 105-11-60. The comprable (??) badge in the new book is 105-11-212. But as I said it does not have the sphinx device.

In the book it say's "this issue was manufactured in England by J R Gaunt Ltd" but the badge in the post has a tablet from Gaunt in Montreal.
very nice badge Albert.

I agree with Greg that this would be a Brooker 105-11-60 type officer's badge. Very nice to see, these don't show up very frequently.
Also, I am away from my references but pretty sure that the Gaunt tablet indicates it was made by Gaunt (England) and distributed by Gaunt (Montreal). Slightly confusing but certainly a UK-made example. Adam |
