Default rhodesia aifrorce mess dress wing

I was offered a Rhodesia Squadron Leader's mess dress complete with wing and miniature medals. The mess dress had been hanging in a cupboard in Natal for a number of years and when removed , it fell apart. The moths had done their work , it seems. Fortunately the mess dress wing and the miniature medals were salvaged.
Here is the wing.

What a really pretty badge Mike! I am sure you must be very happy. Its great that the bullion has little or no wear on it.
Enjoy it, Jimmy

since we're on S.A. stuff, can Brian Jimmy or Mike confirm if I have the correct title for this? Regards, David J.

Hi Mike
Looks like one of those rare cases where the chicken left it's teeth behind for once.
Cheers,
Alex

I have one of these, but in a terrible moth eaten condition, yes, I would say your assuption is 100%.

David

I have to apologise regards the blazer badge, these are actually SADF Permanent Force blazer badges, the crown (COLONIAL ERA)was for the Navy, Eagle for Air Force and the Gun for the Army.

It was bugging me that I had made a note of this soon after acquiring my moth eaten version about 10 years back, dug around today and found my note. There is a later SADF version where the crown has been replaced by a lion. As you might be aware the Lion image was popular in most of the SADF naval badges.

I am sure someone also once said these were awarded for representing the SADF PF at sport events, but cannot remember the source to confirm this.

Regards
Brian

Default S.A.P.F.

Hi Brian, thanks for your clarification on that blazer badge. Before I posted the pic I had seen the SAPF in bullion and had wondered why that and not SAAF. So it's not what I had hoped but I think I'll keep it! Thanks again, David J.
