Default Royal Indian army Colonel/Brigadiers SD cap

Arrived today, very nice condition apart from moth damage on the crown, officers SD cap made in India in the c. 1930's and named to FRL Goodby who in book, The gentlemen of the Raj, the India army officer Corps 1817-1949 is listed as a Major General and officer commanding (Calcutta) HQ Bengal, Bihar & Orrisa in 1948.

Other than this I have yet to uncover any of his history as I assume he must have been with a light infantry/rifles unit earlier in his career.

Interestingly as a private tailored item, his name is under the sewn in sweat shield in the crown, as the tailors were known for their made to order excellence in the 1930's.

The buttons suggest he was previously in a Light Infantry regiment?

Rgds, Thomas.

Thomas, that was my thought which is why I mentioned that possibility in the first post. In Ripley I could not find a match in black, perhaps a generic light infantry type or specific to India. I might ask in the buttons section.

Thanks Ali.

It fills a cap, as I did not have an Indian made SD cap. Interesting to see the differences between it and a UK made version, the larger vent holes in particular and also the chinstrap with the metal buckles which at home would be for OR's.

Yes they are significantly larger aren't they? It's a fine cap though, as you say interesting to see an Indian made version.

Thanks, I thought so, just a shame I can't seem to find out much about him.
