Is there any way to date Tommy Helmets?

I have this ARP helmet, I have owned it for 25 years approximately. Is there any way to date it? I am going to list it on ebay but I don't want to put down a misleading description. If anyone can help it would be much appreciated.

The steel shell is usually dated were the chin strap brackets are, not always east to see, try wetting the area. Also the lining, look on the straps joining the headband to the base of the helmet.

As Irishhorse says they are generally dated, being ARP, I would say 1938-42 era, but I may be wrong.

they will be dated on inner strap..of the main body of the headrest ,you may need to look very hard.

your helmet is definetly ww2.

try this by the way its value is around the £30 -35 MARK may be more on a very good day .
A post 1940 air raid wardens ( ARP ) black ( white W ) MKII Tommy helmet this example has a cross pad liner which was introduced in 1940 The W is to the front only (or if 2 w's font and back ) complete with chine strap .
weight when packed in a cardboard box about 1200 grams

Thanks I found the date it is 1939, it was next to where the strap attached on the left hand side as in the pic. How much is it worth?

This seems to have a cross-pad liner but is dated 1939. Is this a later addition? I am confused now

The helmets where made and had liners added at a later dated depending on what sizes where needed there should be a date on the liner and a size stamp as well . steve

So is this to your eye a genuine 1939 helmet? I don't mean to come across as argumentative I just want to accurately describe it lol! does this make sense.
