Paul,

Absolutely nothing wrong with that badge, in my opinion (gloves off Andy! )

The better-quality photos show the lettering/font to be good; the presence of seeding to the base scroll; the detail to the shield/City arms possibly to be attributable to service/polish wear.

I'd be more than happy to have it in my collection.

Peter

Same here. I've checked photos of genuine ones I keep for reference and they all have the same squarish end to the upper ribbon scroll on the right hand side. If my wife hadn't walked in just as I was about to bid £80 on it, it may have been MINE!

I must admit the images do reflect better detail, but I'm still not 100% certain?

Thanks for the opinions gents. I'm happy enough with it now. I like the signs of original finish that show up with the pictures, and there is a blemish in the shield lower left quarter which matches the ones Wilf has in his album. Looks like one he has pictured has the slider fixed with lead. Also I have noticed the north-south/12o'clock-6o'clock spokes are slighly off centre as the other examples on the forum. The voids between the scroll ends and the leaves also match. I'll wait a bit for any more comment then put up the one I had from Bosleys. I have always had doubts on it -being flat and clean- but now I am thinking I may have judged it harshly. Regards, Paul.

Hi Paul,

The resolution of the photo now reveals it to be a genuine badge!

I saw it but assumed that it was a little dubious as it's so rare. My radar is getting too sensitive lately........

And yes I agree on the bargains, but Ebay being over here is my only real source as there's no show's here to go to.

Well, I concentrate solely on the great war, and this pattern was post 1918-19. Plus, as always, needing to supply the war chest. Sorry mate. At least it went to a forum member.

Simon.
