Drake Battalion Cap Badge

What do you think of this one guys, it seems to tick all the right boxes for a Gaunt Drake badge but you never know! I notice that there appears to be more then one type of brazing hole on the back of these badges, the two circular types as in this one and the rectangular central type, does anyone have any clue to the reason for this, cheers,

I've seen holes like this on small gold and silver fobs. From a conversation years ago, I was told that the "holes" allowed the solder to better "flow" and also made the cleaning of the finished article more thorough.

These fobs (usually the ones in gold) were made of thin front pressings and had a sheet flat material added to the reverse. Gave the impression of a solid piece but was much cheaper and lighter...

Suggestion: the oval/ rectangular (?) holes would have been punched out, whereas "round" holes could have been made with a drill. Probably a bow drill back in those days.
