Default Help Identifying Cap Badge

I need help identifying the regiment to which the man in the photo belonged to. I have trawled the internet for anything resembling his cap badge but cannot find a thing!

The photo was taken by the Seaman company based in Yarmouth and Colchester.

This could be a member of the Gilbert family of Great Bowden, Leicestershire of which there were many sons. The only son I know who was in WWI was John Gilbert who sadly died in 1918 who belonged to the Bedfordshire Regiment.

Thanks everyone for your kind replies. Having compared the photo to the North Staffs badge, I am pretty sure that's what it is!
