Default RAF QC Pilot Wing

Hi all,

Would appreciate members opinions of this wing. It was acquired late last year. Cannot find the same version anywhere else.

Was a Buy it Now item from eBay, the red embroidery inset in the crown immediately caught my eye.

A happy New Year to all on the Forum.

Regards,

Graham

Hello Graham,

Whilst I have seen a number of variations of the RAF Pilot flying badge with red crowns that have great provenance they were all King’s Crown.

I can not see how these Queen’s Crown (QC) wings could be considered to conform with RAF Dress Regulations and or the approved pattern of QC Pilot flying badge.

I’d therefore have to say they are reproduction.

Kind Regards

The wings themselves look like wartime style and some very early Queen's crown badges had them but they quickly evolved into the flatter spread style we have now

Default RAF QC red crowned Pilot wings

Hi again,

Following on from this thread I started, I have 2 more red crown examples to go with the single one posted before.

I cannot recall where the middle of the 3 wings came from but the bottom one came from a reputable dealer in Canada. This latter one is extremely similar to the type used in Canada early QEII.

I cannot find any information for RAF pilots being in Canada for training in that period but that may be a factor if it is okay.

Regards,

Graham
