a couple of australian sas patches
hi all
picked these up a couple of years back. the smaller one is paded and the bigger one is not. can anyone tell me what period they are from and why the difference in style cheers bc

Hi BC,
The padded wing is the British version worn on the Battledress and Servicedress jackets from 1964 until the mid 1990's. They cotton rigging lines tended to fall apart, requiring the wing to be replaced after a few years. The bigger wing with the wider black background is the current Australian version worn on the polyester shirt and the Service dress jacket. The current one is similar to the Commonwealth Government Clothing Factory version with a khaki background which was produced in the mid 1960's. The bottom one in the pamphlet in your photo. For some reason the Brit version, which we had to purchase from the Q store, was deemed to be the official wing, despite the CGCF wing being far more durable. Hi BC,
Sorry but I believe the wing on black felt to be a fantasy item. There are 4 similar variations listed as such in ANZAC elite as items 325 and 335 - 338. It is indeed similar to the one which was issued on a kahki background. Believe those came from Christies Sydney,
I do have an olive backed set on service dress from an ex officer that gave it to me, so sort of worn.

so are you saying you suspect this patch? it is part of a display board from a manufacturers display board. they closed down about 15yrs ago and the display boards were on the wall outside the office bc

so is mine right or not? as mentioned its on a board put together and hung outside the managers office at an old govt contractors factory, who closed down 15-20 yrs ago bc
