Brothers in arms
A collection of badges and framed WWII medals to two brothers, nothing too remarkable you may say, but both brothers had Japanese names and were of Japanese descent.

My best find this year is this third pattern Surrey Militia button dating, I believe from the 1790 to 1801 period. (Ripley reference 223). This Unit was reformed in 1763 before gaining the 'Royal' title in 1801. In excellent condition for its age with the 'Firmin & Co, London' Maker mark to the reverse and a local pattern to me I have been after for some time.

No specific reason other than a regional variation of the spelling at the time as far as I can find out.

A London newspaper from 1759 used the same spelling.
"A London newspaper report of 9th June, 1759 stated "Yesterday the Militia of Southwark, & c, in Surry (about 400 in number) were exercis'd on Clapham Common " This would be a great item to see : "had on when he left the Battalion his Drummer's coat, white, with red and white lace down the Seams, his Cap, on the flap of which is embroidered, "Surry Militia", and his Regimental Sword". .

King’s Colonials - King Edward’s Horse
Merry Christmas to all.
Quite the year - a beautiful baby daughter, a COVID-19 vaccine that works but dropped from further clinical trials due to HIV false positive tests and a near complete set of Officer’s gilt King’s Colonials Regimental and Squadron badges, and King Edward’s Horse Officer’s gilt badges. Best regards to all, Dean
