Identifying my GG-grandfather's badge&uniform
Hi,
I recently got given a picture of my great-great-grandfather (we think!) and was trying to identify his uniform. He has a cap badge and one along his neck (Royal Engineers?) and quite distinct emboridery on the uniform. If anyone is able to shed some light on this, that's be great. |

he is not an engineer. I suspect it is not a Regular Army uniform but a Victorian era civilian organisation of some type.
Not quite the same but St Johns Ambulance is here from that time. https://www.sja.org.uk/what-we-do/ou...ge-and-museum/ |

Police Officer, possibly Inspector or above.
The arm badge is a St. John Ambulance qualification badge, common in police forces at that time. Altcar will know. regards
