Default Crossed axe and hammer badge

Is this naval badge British?
I have a nagging doubt it isn't but need to verify

Apart from being in an odd position, the star is not 6-pointed

Hi GTB, not sure what to make of it. Star should be above the axe/hammer and as you indicate it is a 5 point not 6.

The South African Navy used a 5 point star but the hammer and axe are the wrong way around for SAN, and the star is wrong. Single star should be at the top.
Cheers,
Alex

Perhaps the orientation of the hammer and axe may be put down as for collar insignia (CPO)?

Hi GTB, orientation is correct for CPO but the placement of the star is odd. See attached Chief Shipwright (CPO)

I think this may be an early Pakistan Navy trade badge. Somewhere I have a Petty Officer's blue on white woven badge and it has this 5 pointed star. Obviously in this position it would denote grade rather than a national distinction.Unfortunately I cannot find photographic evidence so its just an opinion that others may be able to add to. Regards fred
