Default RN Motor Mechanic.

Hi all, I wonder is our RN guru's could identify the pictured trade badge.
It is smaller in size than an arm badge so more than likely CPO lapel.
I am aware that the badge with the 2 star, crown & prop configuration was worn by Chief Motor Mechanics prior to 1948. This one however has just the one star. Based on the construction of the badge it appears to be pre WWII.
Thanks in advance.
Len.

Hi Thomas, appreciate you taking the time to reply.
The rates you refer to fall under the Engine Room branch I believe and have a 3 bladed prop. The one pictured has a 2 bladed prop and falls under the Motor Mechanic Branch, which was if I understand correctly also RNVR.
Thanks again.

Humble apologies Len, I indeed mistook the three bladed propeller for a two bladed one, live and learn.
Oddly enough the two-bladed propeller is only described with Crown and star above, star below (1923-1948 Chief Motor mechanic) and Star above, star below (1923-1948 Motor Mechanic) which underscores the relevance of your question.

Rgds, Thomas

Hi Thomas, the Chief Motor Mechanic is all I could find reference to and I have examples of that in the collection. The badge in question is nicely padded and made and would appear to be pre WW2. As indicated it also appears to be of the size worn as a collar by CPO's
Cheers.

Hi Thomas, thank you. That is interesting - with 4 classes one wonders if the trade badge was different in each case? Have not been able to locate any pictorial evidence other than that mentioned.
Thanks again.
Regards,
Len.
