Default Artists Rifles (once again)

Today marks the 6th anniversary of my entry into this forum. I've been the grateful recipient of much help and my collection looks much better today than it did then. While my focus remains cloth badges, I am known to have a weakness for the Artists Rifles. Does this badge look good to the membership?

Happy anniversary!

It is I believe a restrike, albeit one is a much less common blackened WM finish.

The badge is from the genuine OSD die, evident from the notch between the hair and scroll. This die has been much reused latterly to produce restrikes, usually in WM, the quality of which vary greatly.

The reverse of the genuine OSD bronze badges is of course die cast and not die stamped as per yours.

In all likelihood the finish is a reasonably modern paint which would come off easily if exposed to acetone or nail polish remover whereas a period BB finish would not.

Howdy Dob,
Glad you are sticking with us. Sorry the badge is not good as mentioned. Regarding the Artists badges, NONE are good to me. It is one of the few badge designs that just does not appeal to me.
Anyway, keep at it. Just refer to this forum and you should be in good shape regarding future purchases.

I find that surprising CB. Personally I think it is one of the most stylish and unique British cap badges, one of my absolute favourites. Very apt too as the old rhyme goes…

"Mars, he was the God of war, and didn't stop at trifles. Minerva was a bloody whore. So hence The Artists' Rifles. ’’

Alas, I feared it was too pretty to be true! Many thanks to Luke and CB for setting me straight, and also for the kind words!

Well, where I live, both would likely be taken as....
