Default Help with old photo please?

I’m wondering if anyone can help me identify what service/rank this gentleman might be? I have zero information but am guessing late 19th century?

Any help much appreciated

I think it's US Navy, 1890-1920 period. Like this one. The gold stripe on the trousers is what caught my eye and made me thing so, but navies are not my thing, so it's just a guess.

The photo is circa 1850s-60s and may actually be Royal Navy, perhaps a midshipman? The US Navy did not have a uniform quite like this at the time to my knowledge.

Buehler? Buehler?

Thanks. I plead ignorance of things nautical. Did say it was a guess.
I'm glad you could help, sir.

The trouser stripes are not usual for the RN but often seen on US uniforms.
