Indian State Infantry Badge??
Sorry but I originally posted this in the India section but it should have gone here.
I don't know what / who this badge is for. I am guessing it's an Indian State Infantry badge but ...... Any thoughts? Thanks

I think that the initials are I.S.D. but not necessarily in that order.

Similar design to the Army Dental Corps badge but without crown.
"Indian Dental Service"? (That sounds well wrong now I read it). |

Lots of different interpretations here. I read the central letter as an 'L', not an 'I' due to the long tail on the right. I have no idea if 'I's were written like that but I had thought the letters were DSL / SDL / LSD / LDS etc etc.

And, I believe, the Dental Corps went straight from being a branch of the IMS - Indeian Medical Service - to being the 'Army Dental Corps', so that doesn't explain the 'S'

I have done countless google image searches and tried a variety of letter combinations but haven't found anything close, other than similar Indian badges but not with this lettering.
The "S" is smoother while the "L" or "I" and D are more textured, which lead me to think that the "S" would be the first or middle letter....which hasn't really helped either. What's worse, I have a vague recollection of having found a picture of this badge some time ago and making note of what it was but can't find where i wrote it down.

The badge is shown in this download "Newsletter for The Toronto Optimists" as a Canadian cadet cap badge, De La Salle Bugle Band and Drum Corps:

It's taken two years of exhausting, dedicated research, day and night, with only the occasional coffee break.
Well, OK, I just stumbled across the answer by chance. |

Leigh, that's quite the find. At least I had the letters right but definitely the wrong country. I've had a read of the article and googled the heck out of my computer but I can't find any other corroborating info or pictures, so I have a call into De La Salle to see if they have more info on it.
I am guessing it is the band badge rather than the Corps badge (due to the lack of a crown) and probably part of a cross strap or sling, given that it has a single point screw back. The band first wore uniforms in 1868 after the Christian Brothers (or De La Salle Brothers) established De La Salle academies in Montreal, Ottawa, Toronto & Kingston If there is anyone with info about the Cadet Corps r the band(s), I'd be glad to hear about it. As a note, the article attributes the badge to De La Salle (Oaklands) Cadet Band (Toronto) not the Academie De La Salle 211 Cadet Corps, which was Ottawa based. Or the Academie De La Salle 247 (Trois Riviere), which was one of the ones on the repro badges 1989 thread. But maybe their bands all had the same badge?

Did you manage to download the pdf, or find a link to a site which links to a number of pdf's?
Agreed that the badge fitting doesn't seem to be that of a cap badge although commonly found on Croation, Serbian etc cap and beret badges. https://www.torontooptimistshistory.ca/ |

I did download the pdf (Thanks for the link) as well as a few others.
I also found info online attributed to Murt Howell who was a member of the De La Salle Band and later the Historian for the band. He lists this badge as being "worn on the Corps caps from 1929 to 1958" So no major find in my box of unknown bits & pieces, but I did learn more about De La Salle than I ever knew I needed. http://www.drumcorpscollectibles.com...o,Ontario.html
