A gentleman if ever there was one. I bough a few badges off Dave, and he was a pleasure to deal with. Not so common these days. Thanks to Andy P for having the grace to help with badges still with Dave.

Sad day.

Thanks to everyone who has replied, just have to say I agree with everything that has been said about the man. My wife Jayne and I have like many others been on the receiving end of his and Kath's hospitality when we visited and I will certainly miss his self effacing attitude to everything he did.

Andy P (as most people will know) was very close to Dave and has had a string of emails from people wishing to pass on their condolences to Dave's family. Andy has offered to put all of those messages from badge collectors and forum members into a condolence card to pass onto Kath.

Again thanks to everyone who has replied.

Ivan

I never had the good fortune to meet Dave - but I'm in his debt.
Some time ago he posted a picture of a boss badge for identification - I identified it as a 4th Gurkha badge and said that I didn't have one of that type in my collection and would he consider selling it on. He replied that as it was given to him he couldn't possibly "sell" it to me but was very happy to give it to me! - I think this generosity was a mark of the man (and it's clear I wasn't the only forum member to benefit from his generosity) - and I only regret that I was unable to repay him in some way in his lifetime - but I'd like to make a donation to the British Heart Foundation in his name if that was appropriate - or do we know if his family have a preferred charity? Default Sad loss

What incredibly sad news. My condolences to Kath and the family. I have had the pleasure of meeting Dave and Kath at Andy's and enjoyed his ribald humour and love of badge collecting. Many of my badges he has painstakingly repaired and my collection now proudly houses many of his former badges that he moved on at probably less than he paid for them.

I broke down the medical to the layman for him but only wish I could have done more for him and his family.

We have lost a good man, best regards Dean.

This is very sad news.

My deepest and sincerest sympathies go to Kath and Dave’s family.

I was thinking of him only yesterday when considering a return to actively posting on the forum as he had asked me to do on several occasions. I hadn’t been in touch for a while but Dave was often in my thoughts and prayers and I was saddened to see that he hadn’t been posting of late.

I’m deeply saddened by the news of his passing, Dave was a loyal and generous friend who I remain indebted to and I’m pleased at least to have had the pleasure of meeting him and Kath.

God Bless You old mate, I’ll think of you up there in the big shed in the sky.

Ry C

What I respected most about Dave was his sincerity and his passion. I learned in our on-line and off-line interactions to trust him, I am a better person for knowing him. Ar dheis dé go raibh a anam.

Such sad news, please pass my condolences to his family.

I had the pleasure of meeting Dave a couple of times and buying badges on numerous occasions. He was a top bloke....

I'm so sorry to be reading this news. I never met Dave, but he did repair a couple of badges for me & I bought from him on at least one occasion that I can recall. I'm at a loss for what else to say.

R.I.P. Dave.

I had not known Dave, nor, had I never had any contact with him, but, for me, John's post sums up how I would feel, I certainly need add nothing.

Default A sad post

As said before in other posts, a great loss to badge collecting, we never met but did correspond on occasions when I bought badges from him.

My thoughts are with his family at this sad time.
