Default King's Own Borderers 1881-1887

Should this badge be two colours or does it require a clean?

Marc

Marc,
If you start with the second part of the question it may well answer the first part. A gentle clean will reveal a lovely badge.

Never seen or heard of a two coloured badge, I think it is losing its silvering and the brass base metal shines through.
Interested in the 1805-1887 date, were they in use that early?

Rgds,

Thomas.

Sorry dates reflect the title not the badge.

Marc,

The badge appears to be similar to Bloomer "Badges of the Highland and Lowland Regiments" page 25 ( left hand centre badge ) but which does not have the voiding behind the motto which yours does and which is described as " Kings Own Borderers, Officers glengarry badge, silver, QVC 1881-1887.

I would be tempted to give it a very ( very ) gentle clean.

Peter
