Hi All
I have this KOSB officer badge which has the number 51 on the back of the lower right arm of the St Andrew's cross. Can anyone explain the significance of this?

I assume that is actually upon the die this badge was struck from, so every piece will bare that number.

It is a Gaunt made badge with 1973 hallmarks.

I think that is very nice indeed, I would be interested to know if the numerals were actually stamped upon it's reverse, or, as I originally just assumed, when I looked at the photo in the original post, was embossed upon the die it was struck from.
If the former, I would think you have your answer, number fifty one.

I think it must have been on the die as it doesn't appear engraved and a later stamping would have left some showing on the front. I've never seen something like that before so would still like to know the significance, must be there for a reason.
