146 (Antrim Artillery) Field Engineer Regiment
A nice recent find, this officer's battle dress is badged to a Captain in 146th (Antrim Artillery) Field Engineer Regiment, Royal Engineers formed in 1956 by the conversion of 429th (Antrim) Coast Regiment, Royal Artillery (TA) when coastal artillery was abolished.
In the original photo the collar badges looked to be anodised but turned out to be gilt which must make them a little unusual. The original owner kindly wrote his name inside and it turns out that he was originally an RA officer who transferred to the Engineers. An interesting find. Jon |

Really nice Jon. Curious as to why the lanyard is on the left. The RE and RA both wear theirs on the right.

Agree with Mike about lanyard. Is it me or the photo but the lanyard seems to be a lighter shade of blue, I am sure mine was darker and the R.Sigs wore a lighter colour blue.
As I said maybe me ….. Jerry

Outstanding Jon. I've always been interested in TA and SR units recruited in Ulster - and their insignia. The ROYAL ARTILLERY/ANTRIM title is particularly good. Mike

Jon, Yes - as worn by 429 (Antrim) Coast Regt RA (TA) I believe. There's also the sub-title ULSTER in RA colours worn by 51 AA Bde. Mike

RA "ANTRIM", RE "ANTRIMS" & the anodised aluminium collar badge.
The only "ULSTER" I have is the white on blue. |
