Polished HG badges/kit?
A friend has asked if the HG polished their brass fittings or badges. I'm sure I once heard there was an HG reg saying not to polish badges/brass, to stop light reflection - does this ring a bell with anyone? Thanks.

Thought this post was looking a little lonely so herewith my pennyworth.
The only mention of cleaning/polishing I found in research for my HG book related to boots which were supposed to be dubbined and not polished. However given the 'old soldier' make up of the HG - at least in its early days - I would image that badges and brass work were polished whether that was permitted or not. I also can't see that those taking part in parades and such events would be allowed to appear unpolished. The power of the Commanding Officer in such matters should never be underestimated in regards to all aspects of military life. Jon |
