Stretford Home Guard
These items turned up yesterday. I believe that 44 Man was worn by the Stretford Home Guard. Dont often see this sort of thing in South Africa but I guess more commonly found in the UK

Mike,
Thats correct, The 44th County of Lancaster (Stretford) Bn., No.2 Group, No.3 Zone, East Lancashire Area H.G. The Bn. was affiliated to the Manchester Regiment, hence'MAN'. The Zones used a system of coloured lettering on their shoulder titles to indicate which they were, blue in this case. regards

Thanks for responding . Collecting to the Home Guard is an area that we in "the Colonies "know very little about. While we did have our own Civilian Protection Service and the like, they never turned out knowing that there was a real possibility of having to face an enemy in action.
