This example is 1939 dated and made by JALPOTEX again it has a WD R stamp it has more wear to it than the other example listed but is named and the bit I like the most it has the chaps thumb print to the center of the badge which is nickle silver hollow cast example with a steel spilt pin sercuring it which has been on the glengarry a very long time .

Default ONE OF THE FEW NORTH AFRICAN MADE SAS BERETS

This iconic peace of headdress oftern referd to as sandies was purchased by a freind at a carboot sale and he sold this one and the other 2 to me sadly no names came with them . I started collecting militaria back in 1982 arfter joining the ACF a freind told me about abook to read in the school library THE PHANTOM MAJOR I got it out and ended up keeping the book for about 4 months reading it quite a lot and always wanted to find one of the berets that was mentiond in the book it took 32 years to find one . this example has a late war style badge to the side mounted as oftern can be seen at a slant in the war time pictures of the SAS wearing them .

WWII economy version crash helmet for DR's. If anyone knows what the red band is for please enlighten me. The seller had it as MP but a friend who is ex MP and has published on the subject said he did not think it was. The B&W photo shows the two versions of the pulp DR helmet made during WWII.

A lot of these helmets were used by the Belgian army? Perhaps a helmet used by them?

Thanks Leigh,

I know they used British Para helmets but I have no evidence that they used the pulp DR helmets, do you?

I think my source of info was from dealers, years ago.
I've seen a couple with "French" names in them, I had one but sent it to a mate in Sweden. don't think I have photos of it.
Ade Stephenson on "War Relics" may have knowledge.

Thanks again Leigh.

Ade has seen this helmet on War Relics but did not mention any possible Belgian links. French names could be from Belgian's I would think, though I assume you had already thought of that.

Very interesting thread Steve,

I enjoy seeing all different types of headdress from various periods. Are you primarily looking for WW2 headdress or any period? I’m actually surprised that more members have not posted their gems, as I know several collectors on this forum have some primo pieces.

Cheers
