Natal Field Artillery cap badge
Hello gentlemen,
i just purchased this badge for my small collection. I know the basic facts of the Natal Field Artillery, the history, and have browsed through the forum to compare my badge with others. The badge itself looks good for me, the "spare wheel" fixed with two prongs in diagonal position, good quality die struck, the typical ring above the upper lug for wear on a slouch hat. A similar badge is described here in the forum as "WW1 period", but i am not shure, could also be WW2 or later ? But i am a little worried about the lugs and the small ring ..... they look heavy mistreatened or damaged. I guess these are the original lugs in bad condition - or has someone replaced lugs/ring with a bad repair ? Thanks in advance for any comments and opinions, kind regards Markus |

Hi, The same badge was used over extended period(as per the previous comments). They came in different finishes, including gilt, bronze, blackened etc. They also come with the slouch hat ring and without the slouch hat ring. I agree that your badge is a nice original. Have a great evening. Andrew

Thanks Andy & Andrew !
I discovered the SA-Artillery-tableaus in the albums, but the resolution is to low to print them out or to see some details of the badges. Thanks for your expertises, kind regards Markus |
