Default Identify regiment

G'day gents,
I know this is most probably a dumb question but is it possible from the NCO stripes and uniform to identify the regiment (infantry at a guess) this staff sergeant served with? Did they all have crowns above the stripes?
Tony

Hi Tony,

He looks to be a Staff Sergeant. It will be near impossible to ID his unit without seeing other unit insignia such as a formation flash, shoulder title or colour patch.

Regards,

Mick

A colour sergeant in a rifles regiment. He appears to have black buttons.

If he's Australian than its very unlikely to be a rifles regiment.

They would well be war time bakelite buttons.

Thanks Mick,
South African I think. I'll see if I'm able to locate some more pics.

If you have a closer look at the epaulets in the photograph you will see cloth "patches" which indicates that he signed the General Service oath for service in Africa. This indicates that he is a South African soldier.

Badges and buttons were often "oxodised" and worn by South African forces.
