That's lovely. The back plate would originally have been gilded I suppose. Are the mounts silver? And what's the red centre - it can't be a ruby? Can it?

Have just stumbled across a reference and picture to this.

"Officers Cross Belt Plate, with Garter and White Rose (Silver) worn 1811-1852"

It's in G A Raikes Book, 1876

Just fabulous!!
