Default White "Mudguards"?

Hi all, following on from my previous post, can anyone give me a definitive answer to exactly what the white mudguards (or rockers, or shoulder titles!) mean and who wears them?

I've seen them worn on square rig and on officers uniform by RN, RNR, and URNU personnel but have never truly known their exact purpose?

Pictures from google search of them in various circumstances?

Hi, They are called Gaiters and to the best of my knowledge they were worn to cover the top of the boot to prevent debris from getting into the boots. The were also worn by the Army even as late as 1972 ( i wore them whilst in training but changed to puttees once out of training for combat dress)

hope this helps
I'm sure others with also add to this post and provide further knowledge.
Steve

edit: sorry if you are referring to the white shoulder flash, i have no idea, others will no doubt be able to help out on that

Various uses , used to be only Officers under training at Dartmouth and or on Sea Training now extended to Junior rates who are on accelerated entry type branches where they are not fully trained yet , mainly the Engineering Technician types who get their hooks very quickly and can get fast promotion. Much like the old Direct Entry Artificer ( dont mention the Artificer word it was on old fashioned outdated branch which we dont need any more , yeah right )
